Thirty years ago, a high school student walked through the doors of Big I Maryland as a summer intern. She never imagined it would turn into a lifelong career dedicated to serving Maryland’s independent insurance agents.
Today, we are proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone as our CEO, Rebekah “Becka” Langford, marks 30 years with Big I Maryland.
Becka’s journey began in June 1994 when she joined the association as a summer intern. After graduating high school, she officially joined the team full time in June 1996 as an Administrative Assistant. Just two months later, she stepped into the role of Bookkeeper for both the association and its for-profit subsidiary, Independent Brokers Service Corporation (IBSC).
Throughout her career, Becka has consistently embraced new opportunities and challenges. In 2007, she became Education Director, helping shape and expand the association’s education programs. In 2010, she took on an additional leadership role as MAPAC Chairman, further strengthening her commitment to advocacy and the independent agency system.
Along the way, Becka earned multiple professional designations, including ACSR, AINS, AIS, and AAI, demonstrating her dedication to professional development and lifelong learning.
Over the past three decades, Becka has worn many hats. She has managed finances, planned conferences, led educational initiatives, supported advocacy efforts, built relationships across the state, and helped guide the association through periods of significant growth and change.
In June 2018, Becka became President & CEO of Big I Maryland. Her leadership has continued to strengthen the association’s mission of supporting independent insurance agents and their agencies throughout Maryland.
While her responsibilities have evolved over the years, one thing has remained constant: her passion for serving members and advancing the independent agency channel. Becka believes in the value of association membership, the strength of independent agents, and the importance of building meaningful relationships throughout the industry.
From summer intern to CEO, Becka’s story is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities. Her leadership, dedication, and commitment have left a lasting impact on Big I Maryland and the members we serve.
